El baile de Ánimas de Daimiel, era uno de los actos más esperados por todos los vecinos de la localidad en los que se recaudaba dinero para la Cofradía de Ánimas a través de la puja que los mozos hacían para poder bailar con las mozas que acudían a la cita ataviadas con sus mejores galas y de esta forma, aprovechar la asistencia al esperado evento para conseguir pareja.

 

Sería en el año 2016, cuando la Asociación Folklórica Virgen de las Cruces de Daimiel en colaboración con el historiador de arte D. Jesús Sánchez Mantero, se embarcaría en un proyecto de investigación con la intención de dar a conocer una celebración que se llevaba a cabo en la ciudad de Daimiel hasta finales del siglo XIX.

El Baile de Ánimas fue una de las tradiciones más adaptada y celebrada en muchos puntos de nuestra geografía Manchega desde la Edad Media hasta finales del siglo XIX y principios del S. XX, momento en el que no sabemos exactamente por qué motivo estos bailes comenzaron a desaparecer.

En nuestro pueblo, esta antigua costumbre estaba vinculada y relacionada con el Carnaval y con el folklore daimieleño ya que consistía en bailar fandangos, seguidillas y manchegas y a la vez, era una forma de salir de las casas, pasarlo bien y en la que familiares, vecinos y amigos se reunían y juntaban para festejar, bailar y romper esas barreras invisibles entre mozos y mozas.

El baile lo organizaba la Cofradía de las Ánimas benditas que se mantenía con limosnas, subastas y pujas, como así recogen testimonios escritos de la villa de Daimiel. Con este dinero recaudado se decían misas para las ánimas y se compraba cera para el altar de las ánimas benditas.

El proceso de recuperación de esta tradición fue muy importante por parte de la Asociación Folklórica Virgen de las Cruces para ser lo más fiel posible a lo que en Daimiel trascendía en otros tiempos y esto fue posible gracias a la documentación que se pudo encontrar y que describía con total precisión lo que ocurría en esos bailes. De esta manera se fraguó una idea que vería la luz a finales del mes de enero del año 2016 siendo considerado como el primer baile de Ánimas de la nueva era.

Desde aquel 2016 hasta el fatídico 2020, el baile ha llevado consigo una trama y una historia con multitud de personajes que amenizaban la velada y que daban lugar a un sinfín de habladurías, murmullos y cotilleos durante muchas semanas de aquellos olvidados años.

En el año 2016 comenzó esta andadura que nadie sabía cómo iba a resultar. Se trataba de hacer una recreación de lo que acontecía en el lejano final del S. XIX poniendo toda la ilusión en las pujas para conseguir el máximo dinero posible para las arcas de las Ánimas Benditas. Esta primera actuación vino acompañada un día antes de la presentación del libro de D. Jesús Sánchez Mantero Gómez Limón, que hizo de base histórica a esta representación en el Patio del Museo Comarcal, espacio muy acogedor para escuchar cualquier retazo de la historia de Daimiel y lugar donde nació meses atrás y sin nadie ser consciente de ello, una ilusión, hoy hecha realidad.

La prensa local y provincial se hizo eco del evento al que acudió un público incrédulo de lo que en aquella improvisada casa y preparada para la ocasión iba a suceder. Fueron meses de estudio, investigación, ensayos y por fin, el 29 de enero del año 2016 sucedería algo que cambiaría para siempre el devenir de las semanas del invierno de los componentes de la Asociación Folklórica Virgen de las Cruces.

La primera persona en aparecer en escena fue D. Remigio, el acomodador que invitaba a los asistentes a dejarles sus ropas de abrigo y capas e indicarles el asiento que debían tomar en la adecentada casa preparada para la ocasión de D. Felipe “El Pilindicas”. Sería éste, como buen anfitrión quien incitaba a los asistentes a comenzar el primer baile, pujar bien alto y colocar en el sitio convenido la bandeja petitoria. 

Una de las figuras indispensables en cada baile es la del subastero, cuya misión es motivar a los asistentes a bailar con las mozas sucediéndose de forma improvisada una serie de pujas que darían paso a cada baile.


“Federico ofrecía 20 reales por bailar con Eladia, y ella, como manda la tradición, le correspondía bailando una jotilla y también con alguna que otra sonrisa. Lo mismo hizo Hermenegildo con Úrsula o Fermín con Teresa, y es que en estos bailes los mozos invertían sus ahorros por bailar con las muchachas y así divertirse o quizá encontrar el amor. Pero sobre todo, era un baile con el objetivo claro de recaudar fondos para las Ánimas Benditas y así poderles dedicar una misa o colocar velones en su altar.”

El acto terminaba aquel ya lejano 2016 con un público entregado bailando la “Mancha Manchega” y el grito al unísono de “Vivan las ánimas benditas, Vivan las ánimas, Viva Daimiel.”

Debido al trabajo realizado, el 15 de diciembre de 2016 se publicó el libro “El baile de Ánimas de Daimiel” de Jesús Sánchez Mantero, en el que se recoge toda la información relacionada con este baile y numerosas fotografías que colorean este antiguo baile. Esta publicación ha servido para contribuir al patrimonio inmaterial que tiene esta ciudad y así, hacer menos intensa la espera que parte de la población tiene para poder disfrutar de un nuevo baile de Ánimas que será el encargado de dar el pistoletazo de salida a los actos del carnaval daimieleño.

El 17 de febrero del año 2017, tuvimos las segunda cita con la recreación del Baile de Ánimas, llegando las 20´30 horas de aquella noche para toparnos con el paseo de “los Rotos” en la que los miembros de esta cofradía recorrerían las céntricas calles del actual Daimiel con sus banderas y el sonido de un tambor, anunciando y pregonando la inminente celebración del baile.

Media hora después, se iniciaría el baile en el Espacio Fisac que se transformaría en una casa del S. XIX para acoger el tan anhelado baile. En aquel evento del 2017, Lucrecia, una “viuda alegre” intentó bailar con uno de los mozos de la sala para de una vez quitarse el luto pero su criada Inocenta, hizo de las suyas para evitarlo, pero la gran sorpresa de la noche la daría Cipriano, el hijo de los señores de la casa al regresar de Filipinas de servir al Ejército Español en su guerra contra las tropas independentistas del lugar. Sano y salvo, aunque algo tullido de una pierna, Cipriano llegó justo a tiempo para disfrutar de la noche del Baile de Ánimas, en la que sus padres eufóricos por el regreso de su hijo a casa, tendrían el gran honor de pagar el último baile para que bailasen todas las parejas que quisieran.

Solamente llevaba realizándose dos años el Baile de Ánimas y la creciente acogida por el público, hizo que se perfeccionara el trabajo y la representación forjando guiones más elaborados, estudiados y cuidados. De esta forma, el 2 de febrero de 2018 llega otra historia al Espacio Fisac llamada “El hijo difunto”. Esta trama tuvo lugar una noche cualquiera de ánimas, allá por el año 1899, viendo en esta historia que hay algo más allá, que a veces y sólo a veces, se nos hace evidente. De esta forma se encabezaba el Baile de Ánimas del año 2018.

En esta ocasión el Baile lo organizaba el Duque de Zacatena y su devota esposa que recibieron a sus invitados en una de sus tantas propiedades del pueblo. El primogénito de la pareja murió en Cuba y sus padres, los anfitriones del Baile de Ánimas quisieron honrar la memoria de su hijo con este hecho, ya que el Duque tenía el pálpito de que su hijo no descansaba en paz. Para ello invitaron a todo el señorío de la zona, damas y caballeros, buenas mozas honradas y mozos del pueblo para bailar y cantar y de paso recaudar fondos para las misas de sus difuntos y las ánimas benditas.

Entre los invitados se encontraban la señorita Eugenia, novia del difunto hijo, el hijo del cacique del pueblo que espera que ésta deje el luto pronto para poder cortejarla y el modesto maestro, entre otras personas. Éste último y el hijo del cacique pujarían por el amor de la señorita Eugenia a pesar de que el maestro poco podía hacer ante las pujas del hijo del cacique, pero los líos de faldas del pudiente, puestos en evidencia en mitad del baile, dejarían vía libre al maestro para conseguir la mano de la señorita Eugenia. Además la casualidad quiso que en este baile, apareciera una mujer pidiendo limosna junto a su hija, ambas muertas de frío y de hambre, cambiando en ese momento el rumbo del baile y de sus vidas sin ellas saberlo. Un hombre le daría la ruta a seguir para visitar la casa de los Duques aquella noche y darse cuenta en pleno baile que con la persona que había estado hablando era el hijo difunto de los Duques. Las almas que vagan por el purgatorio no descansan hasta hacer su última misión en la tierra con un simple gesto de paz o una buena causa para utilizarla como despedida.

La noche del 23 de febrero de 2019, la trama giraba en torno a la hija de los anfitriones de la casa, un ilustre de la localidad y su mujer. De todos es sabido que es un honor organizar este baile porque con ello se hace gala de su abolengo y posición y deja ver a sus vecinos la gracia y devoción de su persona y su familia. El matrimonio pedía cada día a la Virgen para que les protegiera y bendijera a su única y preciosa hija “Perla” con un buen marido. “El robo de la Perla” es el título del baile de aquel año y en esa ocasión se escuchaban rumores por la zona de que andaba rondando la Sierra de Villarrubia la “Banda del Frasco”, banda conocida por los asaltos a cientos de diligencias en la serranía de Ronda y Sierra Morena. En escena aparecen cuatro bandoleros y la propia Guardia Civil se une al baile. Los flechazos del amor existen y no se pueden elegir y eso se desarrolla en este baile en el que pese a las diferentes clases sociales, la “perla” o niña de los ojos de los anfitriones de la casa se enamora perdidamente y viceversa, de uno de los descarados bandoleros. Termina este baile con un final feliz de enamorados y un mensaje lanzado al viento para que lo recoja quien quiera y que viene a decir “que lo más importante en la vida es la felicidad, dar a los demás, y vivir satisfechos por ello, y no amasar riqueza pensando que con ello nos elevamos por encima del resto de mortales”.

El 14 de febrero del año 2020 nada nos hacía presagiar que nuestras vidas iban a cambiar para siempre días después. La felicidad y los nervios eran los propios por poner en escena la representación del baile que llevaría por nombre “La extraña visita” ante el gran público que se agolpaba a las puertas de la casa de Doña Manuela, anfitriona que el pasado año quiso acoger la celebración del baile de Ánimas por haber sido su hijo nombrado hermano mayor de la Cofradía de los Rotos

Caía una leyenda sobre la casa y la familia de Doña Manuela en la que los mayores relataban que hacía muchos años, la abuela del difunto señor de la casa apareció muerta en sus aposentos colgada de una de las vigas de la estancia y que su esposo tras ver lo ocurrido y quién sabe si guiado por el peso de la culpa, siguió sus pasos buscando alivio para su pena y sufrimiento. Aún todavía algunos aseguran que cada noche de ánimas, justo a la hora en la que tañen fúnebres las campanas de la iglesia, puede verse el espíritu de una dama ataviada con un camisón blanco recorriendo los tejados de la imponente casona y dicen que es el alma se la desdichada en busca de la paz que nunca tuvo.

El Señor de Benavides era hombre de conducta disoluta y libertina que buscaba compañía en las casas de apuestas y burdeles. Heredero de una gran fortuna no daba un palo al agua y era su madre la que se hacía cargo de toda la faena relacionada con la hacienda y sus propiedades. Su joven esposa, la que no se casó por amor sino por conveniencia de su familia, procuraba responder como esposa no siendo ajena a los hábitos de su marido sufriendo en silencio y resignación la falta de moral, el desdén y desinterés de su joven esposo. Además de esta trama en la que será un fantasma el que tendrá que abrirle los ojos a esta familia, aparecerán numerosos invitados, sin olvidarnos de una desterrada bruja en las Tablas y la agraciada criada que tras quedarse sin pareja en los anteriores bailes es requerida en el último minuto por uno de los bandoleros del anterior Baile de Ánimas, triunfando como cada 14 de febrero y nuevamente en nuestros bailes de Ánimas, el amor. No le faltaba razón al fantasma que apareció en nuestro último baile y que nos advertía con este gran mensaje, sin saber ni siquiera el mismo lo que en un mes estaba a punto de ocurrir: “Sed felices, ¡y disfrutad de estar vivos cada segundo!”

La pandemia nos ha obligado a recordar, a llorar, a escondernos, a huir, a dejar de bailar, cantar y hacer música. Nos ha obligado a ver el Baile de Ánimas como un evento lejano, como aquellos bailes que se hacían en Daimiel hace décadas. En el año 2021 no tendremos una de aquellas casas para cortejar, bailar, charlar y reír hasta altas horas de la noche pero tendremos tiempo para inmortalizar a los que disfrutaron con estas recreaciones y se marcharon, a los que con ilusión materializaron cada proyecto y a aquellos que esperan con impaciencia salir de esta situación para volver a la ansiada realidad y retornar un nuevo Baile de Ánimas. Ojalá en el año 2022 sea posible y podamos vivir muchas más noches de Ánimas
